THE OPPORTUNITY: As part of the British Council’s Library Revolution programme across South Asia, our vision includes a re-launch of libraries as integrated cultural convening centres with exciting new content, improved facilities, re-defined services, changes in staff culture and working practices all supported by innovative digital engagement and partnerships with the UK. To achieve this we need to manage the significant change from our current, traditional, static library space to our future vision of physical and virtual space; providing a defined offer fusing the best of our work and the best of the UK.    

THE ROLE: The purpose of the role is to lead transformational change across the Library and Information Services (LIS) network in India (nine centres) and ensuring strategic holistic leadership of the British Council’s Library and Information Services operations by; 
  • Contributing to the development of the regional project and implementing agreed strategies throughout the Indian network
  • Driving forward best practice in digital library and information service provision
  • Advising on selection of and rollout of new digital products and platforms both regionally and locally, and oversee procurement primarily from the UK Developing and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders in corporates, HE institutions, content providers, and vendors (library management system, RFID, etc.)

Generous pension

Mobility packages do not apply to applicants currently working in-country on local terms. Please note that the British Council UK-appointed overseas package is based on the assumption of a UK contractual base. This means you will be on a UK contract and be paid in pounds sterling from the UK. Various benefits and allowances are designed around the assumption that you are moving from the UK and will be able to maintain a UK base whilst overseas. More information is available on request.
