CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa requires two temporary staffs (Project Assistants II) for its library. The selection will be based on the walk-in-interview. Consolidated Stipend per month: Rs. 16000/-



Tenure - 12 months

Maximum age as on date of interview: 28 yrs

Essential qualification: Master Degree in Library & Information Science (MLIS)

Job requirement: To assist in different information services (indexing, cataloging, data migration, data validation, digitization, etc.) in the field of oceanography - a multi-disciplinary science subject. The job requires the ability to understand the science topics, use of vocabulary control tools and sometimes to work independently by inferring the needs of the organization.

The CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO) library has been recognized as the National Information Centre for Marine Sciences (NICMAS) since mid 90s. While catering to the needs of the users from within the institute, it is also committed to serve the marine information seekers within and outside India. Most of the operations in the library have been computerized. The selected candidates will be involved in different library & information services, such as implementation of KOHA open source ILMS, Institutional Repository developed in DSPACE, Classification (CC), Identification of literature for ASFA  (Aquatic Science & Fisheries Abstract) database, etc.

The CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO) with its headquarters at Dona Paula, Goa, and regional centers at Kochi, Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, is one of the constituent laboratories of the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. The institute has about 200 scientists and 100 technical support staff. In addition, there are hundreds of students pursue their project research at this institute every year.
