Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Thursday inaugurated a library for primary classes at a government school in Moti Bagh. It was among 100 such libraries built all across the city, as Sisodia put it, “Diwali gift for children“.The library , built in collaboration with Room to Read, is a bid to develop reading habits among government school students. Sisodia also talked about some books conveying wrong impressions--such as men wearing suits are gentlemen, or beautiful people are more virtuous--and spoke about the need to hold workshops and fix such imagery .
Sisodia also read out from a book and asked the children to read books out to their parents too. “When you go home, you should read out stories to your parents who are tired by the day's end due to working hard,“ he said. The library walls have been done up with cartoons and special shelves to attract children.According to Sourav Banerjee, country director of Room to Read, this template has been used for all the other libraries. “We had signed an MoU with Delhi government where it was decided we will build 450 libraries for primary schools, and manage them for three years,“ he said.
