BERHAMPUR: The library movement is yet to gain momentum in state even though the government enacted a separate Act 11 years ago, said librarians at a function held here on Monday to mark National Library Day.
The Odisha Public Libraries Act was aimed at establishment of a network of public libraries from block to state level. The Act is yet to be implemented fully, said professor, college of library and information science, Sanjay Memorial Institute of Technology, R K Mohapatra.
The Act mandated constituting a separate public library council to take the library movement forward in the state. But the council is yet to be set up while most of the blocks in the state lack Gandhi pathagar, the library established by government at block level, said former MLA (Chhatrapur), Ashok Choudhury.
