National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR) is organising a short -term course in Library Automation and Networking. The objective of the course is to make participants understand the application of IT in libraries, current trends in library automation, library automation software packages, barcode technology, radio-frequency identification, digital libraries, database creation and resource sharing as well as networking.

Eligibility: R&D personnel, science communicators, library and information science staff/students, middle and senior level managers.

Fee: Rs 5,200 with accommodation.

Duration: September 15 -19.

Number of seats: First-cum-first-serve-basis.

INFLIBNET is organizing three days training programme on Bibliometrics and Research Output Analysis during 23-25 April 2014. The programme will give the participants sound overview of bibliometric methods, performance indicators and tools & techniques  related to bibliometric analysis and mapping. It will provide awareness about the most commonly used data base, how to build -up relevant indicators and how to interpret the data. Special emphasis will be given to indicators used in research evaluation.

 Resource Persons

The lecturers are prominent researchers, scientists/professors in the field of bibliometrics. They also have an extensive experience with the application of bibliometric analysis in a research evaluation.

The Training programme will be conducted at Information and Library Network Centre, An IUC of University Grants Commission, Infocity, Gandhinagar-382007, Gujarat, India

Fee

The registration fee is Rs. 3000.00 (Rupees three thousand five hundred only) per person without accommodation and Rs. 5,000.00 with accommodation (four days three nights).

National Workshop on impact of IT on Scientometric Studies

The Department of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, Trichy - 24   is organizing aDST-PURSE Sponsored National Workshop on “Impact of Information Technology on Scientometric Studies” on 17th February, 2014 at DLIS-Smart Class Room.

Workshop Themes:

The Workshop aims the assessment of research performance and focuses on the contribution of scholarly work.

The Participants will be oriented and trained the following areas:

·    Citation and Indexing Database (Web of Science, Scopus, Engineering Village 2)

·    Mapping of Research (Histcite, Vos Viewer, Free mind, Popplet)

·    Testing of Bibliometric Laws

3 Days Advanced Training Programme on Shodhganga at INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar, Guajrat

Shodhganga is a repository of Indian theses and dissertations, which is growing progressively and has crossed the mark of 11,000 theses in Nov, 2013. Centre is receiving requests from university community to impart specialized training for Shodhganga. In this context, “3 Days Advanced Training Programme on Shodhganga” is scheduled on payment basis at INFLIBNET Centre during 29-31 January, 2014. The program will include detailed introduction, its work flow, technical process, creation of metadata and standards, submission of theses, authentication, backup, role and responsibilities of University Coordinator etc. The program will also have hands on training on DSpace which is the backend IR software used for building Shodhganga and the effective use of ingestion interface for managing the submission process. The course fee for the program is Rs. 3000/- (Rupees three thousands only) + Accommodation Charges is Rs. 750/- per day on twin sharing basis and tax @ 12.5% extra. The INFLIBNET Centre is offering a combo package of Rs. 5,000/- for 3 days (3 days and 3 nights). TA/DA is to be borne by respective university or participants. Jiwaji University, Gwalior (M.P.), India, in collaboration with the National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC), Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi is organizing a three-day “Training Workshop on Various Trends of Information Communication Technology and Its applications in Social Science Information between January 31 and February 1-2, 2013 at School of Studies in Library & Information Science, Jiwaji University, Gwalior (M.P.).

The ICSSR training workshop will focus on the renewed role of libraries in promoting information resources in social sciences. In view of the ICSSR/ NASSDOC’s emphasis on training and skill development of participants in the country, this workshop will be an effort in that direction to providing effective information services to the wider network of social science researchers in India.

The workshop is meant exclusively for candidates working as librarians, researchers in social sciences, and information managers of research institutions in India. There is no Course Fee. For outstation participants, No T.A. will be reimbursed. The participants will be provided with free lodging and boarding at University Guest House. A separate request should be made in the registration form for accommodation.

An early confirmation from the participants will enable us to reserve slot at this workshop which promises to be a vital learning experience for the participants. The climate in Gwalior in January will be cold.

The probable participants are requested to confirm their participation as early as possible (latest by January 10, 2013).
