Maharaja Sayajirao University univ opens archive library of history

Vadodara, An archival library was today inaugurated at the department of History of Maharaja Sayajirao University here. The Department has a large number of manuscripts written in 'Modi' script that throw light on the development of mercantile and social activities in medieval Gujarat. "The Department has embarked upon the herculean task of classifying, documenting and digitizing all the archival materials that it has collected over the past decades," Head of History Department Dr Adhya Saxena said. Founded in 1949, the Department of History emphasises on the teaching of medieval and modern Indian History and researches in medieval archeology, art, architecture, epigraphy and numismatics using foreign and domestic sources. The Department has also encompassed the socio-economic history of western India with special emphasis on the process of urbanization. Mayor Dr Jyoti Pandya said learning history is important as "the past teaches us grow and develop analytical perspective". Vice Chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh also stressed the need for understanding history. "We need to re-interpret many known facts that were presented to us by the British," he said. PTI CORR NSK

Assistant Librarian at NAVRACHNA UNIVERSITY, Vadodara

e-library on law inaugurated in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: An electronic law library named after justice V B Raju was inaugurated at the metropolitan court in the city.

The Late Justice Shree V B Raju e-library was inaugurated by Justice Anant Dave, Gujarat high court judge, and principal session judge S H Vora.

The e-library has four computers and two printers and the access would be totally free. The library, according to S V Raju - senior lawyer and son of Late Justice Shree V B Raju - will have the latest judgments of the high court and the Supreme Court. The library will also have the central and state laws.

"A person coming for research would have to pay for the printouts only," said Raju.

Ahmedabad rural district and session judge J N Patel was also present on the occasion. Inaugurating the library, Justice Dave asked bar members and advocates to use the e-library facility optimally.

To assist in providing excellent services to the institute’s user community, the library is looking for young, dynamic, tech- savvy, highly motivated and committed fresh Post-Graduates in Library & Information Science from recognized Indian universities to serve as*Library Trainees *purely on a temporary basis for one year.

Essential Qualifications & other requirements:

Duration: The duration of traineeship will be for one year (usually July-June).
