Recruitement of Guest Faculty in Library & information Science in Assam University.
The University invites applications for the post of Contractual Guest Faculty against vacancy in sanctioned teaching posts as per UGC norms. Guest Faculty will be paid Rs.1000/- per lecture, subject to a maximum of Rs.25000/- per month, and the appointment will be for an initial period of six months starting 1st January, 2013. These are purely temporary posts and may be terminated once vacancy is filled up. The selected candidates will have no natural right for absorption as regular Faculty in the future.
Selection will be made through personal interview, dates of which will be published in the website. The following Departments have indicated their requirements for filling up of vacant positions, hence applications are invited initially from appropriate candidates.
Departments: Sanskrit, English, Arabic, Economics, Sociology, Visual Arts, Philosophy, Educational Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Business Administration, Agricultural Engineering, Information & Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication, Library & Information Science, Law, Ecology and Environmental Science, and Social Work.
Interested applicants must satisfy themselves that they fulfil the ESSENTIAL requirements for the post of Assistant Professor according to the UGC Regulations 2010.
Those desiring exemption from the requirement of NET etc must produce documentary evidence that they obtained their Ph.D degrees in accordance with the UGC Regulations 2009.
Applications with all documents must be submitted by 15.12.2012, and shortlisted candidates will be informed by 20.12.2012. Applicants must provide their contact telephone numbers and e-mail ids.

Qualfications:
2. At least a second class ‘Three Year’ Bachelor’s Degree with Honours / Major in the relevant / allied subject.
3. The candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC (CSIR) or similar test accredited by the UGC like NET / SLET.
4. However, the candidates who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 shall be exempted from the requirement of the Minimum Eligibility Condition of NET / SLET / SET.
5. NET / SLET / SET shall also not be required for such Masters programme in disciplines for which NET / SLET / SET is not conducted.
1. A relaxation of 5% in the marks may be provided for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/Differently-abled (physically as well as visually) categories.
a. At the Masters level required to satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria.
b. For assessing good academic record throughout the candidate’s career.
The marks in each case mean the qualifying marks without any grace marks and/or rounding off procedures.
2. A relaxation of 5% may be provided for the minimum eligibility marks of 55% at the Master level to the Ph.D. degree holders who have obtained their Masters Degree prior to September 19, 1991.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Head, Research & Information Services (RIS) Department, the assistant department head oversees a unit within the RIS department, which is responsible for the development, implementation, and delivery of information and research support services to the Northwestern University community. This newly conceived unit, devised as a key component of the re-visioning of library’s public services division (PSD), will work in collaboration with other library and campus units to design and deliver general and discipline-specific information and collections-related services to facilitate the research, teaching, and educational mission of the University. The assistant head directly supervises three full-time librarians and one library assistant. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in library and information science or equivalent combination of education and relevant library experience. At least four years of experience working in an academic and/or research library setting; experience with general reference. Supervisory experience; proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience with new technologies, including web and mobile applications; ability to coach users and staff on technological matters. PREFERRED: Flexibility; ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment; reading knowledge of a language other than English; experience with management of an information service point.
