Deputy Librarian - Center Services – Job Description
Summary:
The Deputy Librarian – Center Services is responsible for planning, developing
and administering the Center Services which include acquisition and processing
of library resources such as book, periodicals, electronic and multimedia
products; lending services and other administrative functions.
The Deputy Librarian will provide complete support to the Librarian in
achieving the expected results especially in advancing IIMB’s teaching and
research. S/he provides inputs for procuring resources keeping in view of the
requirements of the academic community. Work towards cost effective fiscal
management. Supervise the Senior Executives and Junior Executives for
effective contributions in the specific areas of their work.
Constantly meets with the faculty and students to become aware of their
interests and suggests appropriate resources to be procured for the library.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Develop a system to procure effective print and electronic resources
in the areas focused by IIMB. To this direction, develop a collection
development policy which includes procurement and maintenance of
library resources – books, periodicals, electronic resources, etc.
• Ensure identification of resources.
• Maintain constant contact with publishers, vendors and other
institutions to identify resources for procuring.
• Constantly meet with the academic and non academic staff including
students to elicit current subject interests and the project areas they
are involved in.
• Constantly update the bibliographic database with new titles.
• Identify less used resources and withdraw from the collection.
• Direct and Supervise the Assistant Librarian and Executives.
• Identify skills of the staff and recommend Training programs to
enhance skills and efficiency.
Job Outline:
• Library plays a key role in meeting information re requirements of both
academic and non academic community which includes students and
research scholars. It is necessary that the library procure authentic
resources adhering to copyright and other statutory regulations.
• As the key player in collection development, implements a collection
development policy as approved by the Librarian and Chief Librarian.
• Implements Circulation policy as approved by the Librarian and Chief
Librarian.
• While identifying the resources it is necessary to keep in mind the
various interests of the academic and non academic community.
• Keep abreast of the latest publications released by authentic publishers,
vendors and other resource providers. Constantly browse through the
reviewing periodicals to identify appropriate resources.
• Supervise and evaluate the work of Assistant Librarians and Executives
to get maximum input for the successful operations.
• Constantly interact with the Staff assigned to motivate them and also
elicit Training requirements for enhancing output.
Key Responsibilities:

• Build a list of leading publishers both print and electronic
• Supervise and evaluate the work of the Assistant Librarian and
Executives
• Provide inputs for forecasting budget requirements
• Arrange for periodic inventory and weeding of the collection
• Endorse payments of all purchases made in the library for all sections
• Conduct weekly meetings to know the development and assign work
• Provide statistical reports periodically and also on ad hoc requests
• Report activities to the Librarian on a weekly basis
Pay Scale: 15600-39100 + Grade Pay: 660
Educational Qualification and Experience:
Master’s Degree (full time) in library science/information
science/documentation with at least 55% marks and a consistently good
academic record from reputed institutes or universities.
• Five to Ten years of post-qualification experience in a leading and
reputed Academic Institution/Library/Research Centre.
• Evidence of innovative library service and organization of published
work.
• Professional commitment and experience in computerization of library.
• Desirable: An M.Phil. in Library Science/Information Science.

• Internal – Academic and non academic staff, students and others in IIMB
• External – Print and Electronic Publishers, Vendors, Research Institutes
and Think Tanks.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
• Understanding of the major challenges in collection building in a leading
Management institute and strong interest in developing a career and
moving up the ladder.
• Innovation, Creativity, Interpersonal skills, People management, multitasking, Attention to details and strong negotiation skills.
• Good Communication skills to interact with the diverse communities,
Interpersonal and motivational skills.
• Awareness of developments in the areas of management and related
subjects as focused by the IIMB to support programs by way of
resources.
• Evaluative, assessment, analytical and leadership skills.
• Ability to supervise professional and clerical staff.
• Experience in and exposure to international library systems for
acquisitions, serials and technical services processing.
• Play a key role in the process of identifying and managing next
generation discovery tools.
