National Level Workshop on Digital Asset Management in Libraries – 13th April 2013 (Saturday)



Objectives
The objectives of the workshop are to enrich knowledge about current technological updates in Digital Asset Management and effective dissemination to the Library users. To ensure that the needs of the community are accurately represented Digital Asset Management refers to the protocol for downloading, renaming, backing up, rating, grouping, archiving, optimizing, maintaining, thinning and exporting files. This workshop would be a unique opportunity to develop and explore the digital libraries using D-Space open source software.

Target Audience

The Workshop is aimed for the audience from Library and Information Science Profession.

Registration Fee: Rs.250/- per head. The participants will be provided with a working lunch, refreshments and workshop kit (includes essential course materials).
Participants are requested to send their filled in registration form (Photocopy is also acceptable) to the Organizing Secretary on or before 8th April 2013 along with the Demand Draft. Seats are limited. Registration fee will be accepted only by Demand Draft drawn in favor of “VITUniversity - Chennai” payable at Chennai along with the completed registration form. About Conference:

The information age has made it possible for users to utilize information products and services in myriad formats at a high level. Users´ experiences in the electronic environment and collaborative information use make an impact on information products and services. With ‘Google generation’ information processing is mainly horizontal. Interactive revolution is a driving force for innovations in information seeking in libraries. Collaboration and community-based interactions, cognitive mapping and visualizations in the electronic environment help users make sense of information. Behavior patterns prove deep changes in information use in the electronic environment. With this background Library and Information Science professionals are need to have adequate knowledge of information product development and introduce novel and innovative services in e-environment.

A Two day meet is planned with  scheduled sessions between 9.00 am & 9.00 pm includes Talks, paper presentations by Faculty /LIS Professionals/ Research Scholars and Students.. This event is aimed at bringing together faculty, researchers, students and practitioners for open discussions and experiences focused on the practice of Library and Information Science and Informaton Technology and its applications to LICs
 
 
Call for Papers
Original contributions based on applications / deployments / research / surveys / practices related to the theme and sub themes mentioned, are invited for conference presentations and poster presentations. Based on technical committee’s recommendations, papers for the national conference shall be selected and published in the conference Volume (with ISBN Number). Registration for all authors is mandatory for paper presentation.  All papers should be submitted through email only.
 
Guidelines for Submission of Papers:
 
1.   Last Date of submission of full text paper on or before 5th April, 2013.
2.   Acceptance of paper for presentation will be intimated to the Authors 10th April 2013.
3.   In case of co-authors, correspondence will be sent to the first author only.
4.   Accepted papers will be called for presentation and based on editorial Committee’s review.
5.   Registration for all authors is mandatory for paper presentation.

Dear Professionals

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) is organizing International Conference on Digital libraries (ICDL 2013) during 27-29 November 2013 at New Delhi. The conference will also aim at further strengthen the academic collaboration and strategic alliance in development of DL in the world. Theme of the conference is Vision 2020: Looking back 10 years and forging new frontiers.

In recent past TERI had organized three major ICDL conferences during 2004, 2006 and 2010 which were proved to be useful tools to bridge digital divide between developed and developing countries. Aim: ICDL 2013 is expected to be a major forum focusing on digital libraries and related technologies and issues. This conference would facilitate exchange of ideas and experiences to bridge knowledge gaps in these areas and sustain the knowledge thus gained. Paper submission guidelines and date

ICDL invites original papers typed on MS Word 2000. The word limit for each paper is 5000 words. All papers should be written in English for acceptance for presentation in the conference. Each submitted paper will be reviewed by a panel of experts and only well-researched and well-written papers will be accepted for presentation. It is expected that all accepted papers will be presented at the conference by the author(s).A few papers shall also be selected for the poster session presentation. The conference proceedings that will be distributed to the participants will include the selected papers (for presentation at the conference) and abstracts (selected for presentation in the poster session).

लाइब्रेरियन: बुक मैनेजमेंट का मास्टर--शैलेन्द्र नेगी


लाइब्रेरियन का काम आज किताबों को व्यवस्थित करने तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह एक हाईटेक काम में तब्दील हो गया है। इसका दायरा भी काफी विस्तृत हो गया है और इसमें करियर की संभावनाएं भी काफी बढ़ गई हैं। आप भी इस क्षेत्र में करियर बना सकते हैं। बता रहे हैं शैलेन्द्र नेगी

लाइब्रेरी यानी किताबों से प्यार करने वालों का खास अड्डा। इस लाइब्रेरी के रखरखाव की जिम्मेदारी होती है लाइब्रेरियन की। आज लाइब्रेरी की किताबें बुक शेल्फ से निकल कर कम्प्यूटर के माध्यम से डिजिटल हो गई हैं और इंटरनेट और मोबाइल ने इसे और भी आसान बना दिया है। अब लाइब्रेरियन का काम केवल किताबों को इधर से उधर रखने तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह हाईटेक काम में तब्दील हो चुका है। लाइब्रेरियन का काम पढ़ने योग्य सामग्री को संगठित करना, उसे डिजिटल लुक देना, सामग्री को प्रभावी ढंग से प्रयोग करने में सहायता करना और पाठक को सही समय पर सही सूचना प्रदान करना है। लाइब्रेरी अब केवल किताबों के रखने और पढ़ने की जगह भर नहीं रह गई है, बल्कि नॉलेज सेंटर में तब्दील हो चुकी है। आप भी इस नॉलेज सेंटर के कर्ता-धर्ता बन सकते हैं।

कौन होता है लाइब्रेरियन
लाइब्रेरी एक साइंस बन चुकी है। इस साइंस के तीन तरह के काम हैं- पाठकों को सामान्य सेवाएं देना (जैसे-पुस्तकों का आदान-प्रदान), तकनीकी कार्य (किताबों की एंट्री,  सूची बनाना या इंडेक्सिंग) तथा प्रशासनिक काम (सुविधाएं बढ़ाने या लाइब्रेरी से संबंधित कामकाज को सुचारु रूप से संचालित करने के लिए वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों से संपर्क रखना और पुस्तकों की खरीदारी आदि।
लाइब्रेरियन के काम
जानकारी का विश्लेषण करना तथा यह सुनिश्चित करना कि पाठक को सही समय पर सही किताबें मिल जाएं। रिकॉर्डस तैयार करना। नई किताबों पर नजर रखना और पाठकों के लिए उन्हें उपलब्ध कराना। साथ ही यह भी सुनिश्चित करवाना कि लाइब्रेरी में किताबें वापस भी आएं। लाइब्रेरी के अन्दर बेहतर माहौल तैयार करना। ये वे काम हैं, जिन्हें एक अच्छा लाइब्रेरियन आसानी से कर सकता है।
किस तरह के पद
एक व्यवसाय के रूप में लाइब्रेरियनशिप रोजगार के अनेक अवसर प्रदान करती है। आकार के अनुसार किसी लाइब्रेरी में विभिन्न तरह के लोग होते हैं। सबसे बड़ा पद लाइब्रेरियन या पुस्तकालय प्रबंधक का होता है। यह पद प्रोफेसर पद के समतुल्य है। इसके बाद डिप्टी लाइब्रेरियन (रीडर पद के समकक्ष), असिस्टेंट लाइब्रेरियन (लेक्चरर पद के समतुल्य), लाइब्रेरी असिस्टेंट या टेक्निकल असिस्टेंट आदि के पद होते हैं। ये सभी लाइब्रेरी एंड इंफॉर्मेशन साइंस में प्रशिक्षित होते हैं।
इस क्षेत्र में आज करियर की अनेक संभावनाएं हैं। पुस्तकालयों तथा सूचना केन्द्रों में रोजगार दिया जाता है। प्रशिक्षित व्यक्ति पुस्तकालय एवं सूचना अधिकारी, ज्ञान प्रबंधक/अधिकारी सूचना कार्यपालक, निदेशक/सूचना सेवा अध्यक्ष, प्रलेखन अधिकारी, सहायक लाइब्रेरियन, उप लाइब्रेरियन, वैज्ञानिक सूचना अधिकारी तथा सूचना विश्लेषक हो सकते हैं।
संभावनाएं
स्कूलों, कॉलेजों, विश्वविद्यालयों, निजी शैक्षिक संस्थानों में तो लाइब्रेरी होती ही है, इसके अलावा सरकारी और निजी संस्थानों में भी लाइब्रेरी के साथ-साथ सन्दर्भ विभाग या रेफरेंस डिपार्टमेंट होता है। इलेक्ट्रॉनिक मीडिया के प्रसार ने भी रेफरेंस विभाग को बढ़ावा दिया है।
नेशनल नॉलेज कमीशन द्वारा 2015 तक करीब 1500 विश्वविद्यालय खोलने की सिफारिश से आने वाले दिनों में बड़ी संख्या में लाइब्रेरी खुलेंगी। कॉरपोरेट कंपनियां भी अपने यहां लाइब्रेरी को प्रमोट कर रही हैं और स्टाफ को आकर्षक सैलरी ऑफर कर रही हैं। अब अधिकतर लाइब्रेरीज खुद को वीडियो लाइब्रेरी, कैसेट-सीडी लाइब्रेरी, कम्प्यूटर लाइब्रेरी, साइबर लाइब्रेरी, इंटरनेट लाइब्रेरी, फोटो लाइब्रेरी, सॉन्ग लाइब्रेरी (रेडियो स्टेशन या एफएम चैनल्स में), स्लाइड लाइब्रेरी के रूप में  बदल रही हैं। इसके लिए ट्रेंड प्रोफेशनल्स की जरूरत है।
विषय आधारित लाइब्रेरी
आजकल हर तरह की किताबों के लिए सब्जेक्ट स्पेसिफिक लाइब्रेरी खोलने का चलन बढ़ रहा है। यहां तक कि परम्परागत किताबों को भी डिजिटल किया जा रहा है। मोबाइल और कंप्यूटर का चलन बढ़ रहा है, इसलिए प्रकाशक अपनी किताबों को डिजिटल बनाने में जुटे हुए हैं। आजकल ऑनलाइन लाइब्रेरी का चलन चल पड़ा है।
एकेडमिक लाइब्रेरी: इस तरह की लाइब्रेरी शैक्षणिक संस्थानों में होती है।
डिजिटल लाइब्रेरी:  इस तरह की लाइब्रेरी फिल्मों के लिए इस्तेमाल होती है।
लर्निग रिसोर्स सेंटर: आजकल कई तरह के रिसोर्स सेंटर खोले जा रहे हैं, जिनमें सरकारी और निजी, दोनों क्षेत्र शामिल हैं।
ऑनलाइन लाइब्रेरी: इस तरह की लाइब्रेरी इंटरनेट पर उपलब्ध रहती है, जहां पैसा देकर और मुफ्त, दोनों ही तरह से किताबें पढ़ी जा सकती हैं।
रोजगार के क्षेत्रलाइब्रेरी साइंस अपने आप में एक बड़ा क्षेत्र है। देश में सभी विश्वविद्यालयों में इससे संबंधित कोर्स चलाए जा रहे हैं। इस क्षेत्र में आने वाले समय में रोजगार की संभावनाएं और ज्यादा बढाने की उम्मीद है। भविष्य में देश में  कई नए देसी और विदेशी विश्वविद्यालय खुलने वाले हैं। ऐसे में रोजगार के अवसर और ज्यादा प्रबल होंगे।
रोजगार देने वाले संस्थानों में प्रमुख हैं विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन, यूनेस्को, संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ, विश्व बैंक जैसे अंतर्राष्ट्रीय केन्द्र, मंत्रालय तथा अन्य सरकारी विभागों के पुस्तकालय, राष्ट्रीय स्तर के प्रलेखन केंद्र, पुस्तकालय नेटवर्क, समाचार पत्रों के पुस्तकालय, न्यूज चैनल्स, रेडियो स्टेशन के पुस्तकालय, स्कूल, कॉलेज, विश्वविद्यालय, केन्द्रीय सरकारी पुस्तकालय, बैंकों के प्रशिक्षण केन्द्र, राष्ट्रीय संग्रहालय तथा अभिलेखागार, विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में कार्यरत गैर-सरकारी संगठन, आईसीएआर, सीएसआईआऱ, डीआरडीओ, आईसीएसएसआर, आईसीएचआर, आईसीएमआर, आईसीएफआरई जैसे अनुसंधान तथा विकास केंद्र, विदेशी दूतावास तथा उच्चायोगों में, सूचना प्रदाता संस्थाओं में इंडेक्स, डिजिटल लाइब्रेरी ऑफ इंडिया आदि में रोजगार की प्रबल संभावनाएं हैं।
वेतन
लाइब्रेरी असिस्टेंट या टेक्निकल असिस्टेंट की शुरुआती सैलरी दस से पंद्रह हजार रुपये प्रतिमाह होती है। विश्वविद्यालयों या शैक्षणिक संस्थानों में असिस्टेंट लाइब्रेरियन के रूप में नियुक्ति होने पर और अच्छा वेतन मिलता है।

Contributors can send their research papers on any of the sub-themes or any other theme relevant to the main theme of the conference. GUIDELINES FOR PAPER SUBMISSION:

Papers will be considered for publication and/or presentation provided they are submitted according to the guidelines for paper submission.The paper should be adhered to the following guidelines:

Papers should be typed in MS Word and texts should be typed in “Cambria” with font size 12 and double-spaced. Headings and subheadings must be in bold font, justified left side.
Title should be followed by name, affiliation and address of the author(s) An abstract not more than 250 words should be supplied with the paper. Four to five keywords must be given after the abstract. Size of the paper to be kept within 5000 words.

All papers must be accompanied by one passport size colour photograph with a brief CV of author(s). Tables and graphs should be clearly labelled (e.g. Table-1, Figure-1) The references should be provided in accordance with APA style.

1. Age limit
Age limit is 35 years as on 17.06.2012, 38 years for OBC and 40 years in the case of SC/ST
candidates. Ex-Servicemen & Persons With Disability (PWD) are eligible for age relaxation as
per Government rules. For all posts minimum age prescribed as on 26.05.2012 is 18 years.
Note: Children/family members of those who died in the riots of 1984 will be given preference
in recruitment by giving necessary age relaxation as applicable.
2. As on date, approximate salary for the post of Scientist/Technical Assistant is Rs.28,280/- per
month.
3. The Institute has a progressive HRD policy and provides an excellent growth potential for the
right individual through its periodical Merit Based Performance review system (called Merit
Promotion Scheme) de-linked from availability of higher post, by which the staff can be
evaluated for the advancement of their career in the Institution
4. The Institute provides medical facilities (Contributory Health Service Scheme) for self and
dependants, transport facilities/transport allowance, canteen facilities, housing
accommodation subject to availability, in addition to the facilities available to the other Central
Government Staff. The Institute has a well-stocked Library that provides an excellent
opportunity for professional development.
5. Candidates will have to produce proof of the details furnished in their applications submitted
as and when required.
6. Outstation candidates called for Interview will be paid to and fro Sleeper Class Railway Fare
by the shortest route including reservation/sleeper charges on production of proof of journey
such as Railway Tickets/Ticket Number or Bus tickets, etc. If the candidates travel in a higher
class of accommodation than the one prescribed, only Second Class rail fare excluding the
reservation charges/sleeper charges will be paid.
7. The qualification prescribed is the minimum requirement and possession of the same does
not automatically make candidates eligible for Interview. Based on Bio-data initial screening
will be done to short list the candidates. Only short-listed candidates will be called for Written
Test/Interview as the case may be. Candidates called for interview will have the option to
answer the questions in Hindi also. 8. The Institute reserves the right not to fill up any of the posts, if it so decides.

10. No interim correspondence will be entertained.
