SOL students protest DU library diktat
SOL students protest DU library diktat
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
New Delhi: Critiquing DU’s central library for indulging in “educational apartheid”, students from School of Open Learning (SOL) raised objections to a recent notice outside the library’s entrance which stated that ‘SOL students were not allowed’.
“This is an attempt to keep out students from using the facilities of the university,” said Harish Gautam, a 2nd year BA student of SOL. Gautam added that many SOL students have no access to library facilities and often use the central library as it is near to the center allotted to them by DU’s arts faculty.
Contradicting the claims, DV Singh, librarian of the DU’s central library, clarified that the library was never open for SOL students in the first place. “SOL is an autonomous institute and has a library of its own. Many students from SOL come here and study for their competitive exams. Since there is not much space available in the library, we had to put out the notice,” Singh added.
The librarian also said that since SOL students do not have a membership of the central library, barring their entrance is not something new.
