IATLIS: Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) is a professional association of more than 600 teachers and professionals in Library and Information Science in India.  Since its inception in 1969, IATLIS has been active in taking up several issues of LIS Education in India especially relating to the development of curriculum, teaching methods, infrastructure, teacher training, etc. It actively works for the promotion of the professional interests of LIS teachers. As part of its activities, it conducts national seminars, workshops, and training programmes. It brings out its official organ ‘IATLIS Communications’ besides publishing conference volumes. This year the annual IATLIS conference is being held at the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala at Shahpur (TAB), District Kangra.

The Central University of Himachal Pradesh is established under the Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) enacted by the Parliament. The University is funded and regulated by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The University became functional with the assumption of charge by the first Vice Chancellor on 20th January 2010.The University is hosting XXX IATLIS national conference on LIS Education jointly with the IATLIS from 27-29 November 2014.

Call for papers

Original papers on the above themes or related themes are invited from professionals. The papers should be based on research surveys, case studies or action plans. Surveys on Internet use/E-Journals usage in libraries will not be accepted. Papers should not normally exceed 5,000 words or 16 double-spaced pages, besides tables, diagrams, etc. Also, each paper should contain an abstract, up to ten keywords, body of the paper, conclusion and references. The abstract should state in about 150 words the sum and substance of the paper. The conclusion should include the recommendations made in the paper. The keywords which describe the main issues discussed should be given in alphabetical order. The paper should also contain the author's name, designation, organisation, address, telephone, fax, and E-mail address. References at the end of the paper and their in-text citing should be according to APA Style manual. The following certificate should be attached
with the submitted paper(s): “This is to certify that my/our paper entitled ------ is original, not copy-pasted, and is not published elsewhere.”

Papers for the XXX IATLIS National Conference should reach General Secretary, IATLIS, Department of Library & Information Science, Punjabi University, Patiala – 147002 (Punjab) as a hard copy and also as an email attachment latest by 10 November 2014. There will be no extension after this date. The soft copy of the file should be a Microsoft Word .doc file only (not .docx) and it should be sent to through email to iatlis.patiala@gmail.com. Only those papers that are received in hard and soft copy both would be considered.

The registration fee covers conference kit, proceedings of the conference (upon post- publication), and working lunch, and session tea for the conference days. The registration fee does not include breakfast, dinner and accommodation. Papers presented at the conference will be published in the post-conference volume and would be sent to the registered delegates later on as per the decision of the General Body. Delegates are requested to include registration fees for accompanying persons while forwarding their registration forms since it would not be possible to entertain last minute request for accommodation. Accompanying persons shall not be entitled for conference kits. Delegates are requested to intimate their travel plan in advance to avoid last minute inconvenience. The Demand Draft/multi-city cheque for registration fee should be in favour of IATLIS payable at Patiala, and should be sent along with the duly filled in Registration Form latest by 10

Climate and Clothing:
 
Winter starts from November and is very unpredictable, hence light to heavy woolens such as sweaters and shawls are advisable.
 
How to reach Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala

By Air: The nearest airport is at Gaggal Airport which is 14 km away from the conference Venue, Shahpur (TAB).
By Rail: Pathankot is the nearest broad gauge railway terminal to Dharamshala. From Pathankot the conference venue is on Pathankot- Dharamshala just 58 kms. The participants reaching the conference venue by road from Pathankot are supposed to get down at Chatri 3 kms before Shahpur  while coming from Pathankot.
By Road: There are direct and regular bus service from Delhi (520 km), Chandigarh (250 km), Jammu (185 km), Shimla (238 km), Chamba (105 km) and Manali (240 km).
 
Headquarters of the University: The Headquarter of the University is located in Dharamshala, District Kangra , Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala has a serene location, pleasant climatic condition, spiritual atmosphere, and provides an attractive ambience conducive to academic pursuits. Temporary Campuses:
In view of the ongoing development of its own infrastructure and permanent campuses, the University is presently operating from its Temporary Academic Block, Shahpur, Distt. Kangra which has adequate state- of the- art infrastructure and is also the venue of the XXX IATLIS National Conference 2014.
