Educational and Other qualification required for the post

Essential:
(i) Master's Degree in Library Scienc/Information Science/documentation with CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or at least 60% marks or its equivalent grade of 'B'  in the UGC seven point scale and consistently good academic record set out in these Regulations.
(ii) At least ten years as a Deputy Librarian in the Library of a technical university, educational institute of national importance, or any other large technical Iibrary at least five years being spent on a post with GP of Rs.8700/- or an equivalent post.
(iii) Evidence of innovative library service and organization of published work.
 

Age Limit: Preferably below 55 years
Period of Probation: 1 year
Officers under central/state Govt./universities/ or institute of national importance or university level institution or public sector units/industry can also apply if they satisfy following additional requirements.
i)Holding analogous post or
ii) With at least five years regular service in the post with GP of Rs.9000/-as per 6th Central Pay Commission or equivalent having experience in administration, establishment and accounts matter.

Post: Deputy Librarian
Pay Band: PB - 3 (Rs.15 ,600 - Rs.39, 100/-) with GP of Rs.8000/-.

Educational and Other qualification required for the post
Essential:
(i) Master's Degree 111 Library Science/Information Science/Documentation with
CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or at least 60% of the marks or its equivalent grade of 'B' in the UGC seven point scale and a consistently good academic record.
(ii) Ten years experience as an Assistant University Librarian out of which at least 5
years to be in a post with GP of Rs.7000/- or an equivalent post.
(iii) Evidence of innovative Library Service and organization of published work and
professional commitment, computerization of library.
Officers under central/state Govt/universities/ or institute of national importance or university level institution or public sector units can also apply if they satisfy following additional requirements.
i) holding analogous post or
ii) With at least 5 years ' service in posts in the GP of Rs.6600/- as per Central Pay
Commission or its equivalent and having experience in administration, establishment
and accounts matters.
Age Limit:
Preferably below 45 years; age bar relaxed for employees of NIT serving as Assistant
Librarian.
Period of Probation: 1 year

Post: Assistant Librarian
Pay Band: PB - 3 (Rs.15 ,600 - Rs.39, 100/-) with GP of Rs.6000/-.
Educational and Other qualification required for the post
Essential:
(i) Master's Degree in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation Science
or an equivalent professional degree with CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale or at least 60%
marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and a
consistently good academic record with Superior knowledge of computerized library
service.
(ii)Qualifying 111 the national level test conducted for the purpose by the UGC or any
other agency approved by the UGC.
(iii)However, candidates, who are or have been awarded Ph.D. degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for A ward of Ph.D. Degree). Regulations 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the m1mmum
eligibility condition of NET I SLET I SET for recruitment and appointment as Assistant
Librarian.
Desirable:
PG Diploma m Library Automation and Networking or PGDCA or equivalent.
Age limit:
Not exceeding 35 years; age bar not applicable to employees of NIT serving as Library and Information Assistant (Selection Grade-II) for at least 6 years with GP of Rs.4800/-
0fficers under central/state Govt/universities/ or institute of national importance or university level institution or public sector units can also apply if they satisfy following additional requirements.
i) holding analogous post.

Nagpur University, finally, hands over librarian's case to Disciplinary Action Committee

NAGPUR: The Nagpur University has finally handed over the case of senior NU lecturer allegedly helping her sister to clear her exams, to its Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC). The controller of examinations (CoE) Siddharth Kane, who had given a "clean chit" to the head of NU's Department of Library and Information Science (DLISc) Shailini Likhitkar, told media about this development. TOI had on August 2 reported this issue.

"After conducting initial probe we have decided to handover the case to DAC as per rules and regulations," Kane said. He explained that after TOI report, NU had initiated a probe and sought Likhitkar's explanation on the allegations.

"In her reply, she stated that she was on leave at the time of the examination but NU officials had asked her to check the answer sheets. She said that she didn't have any information about the answer sheets that were being revaluated and had absolutely no idea that her sister's answer-sheet was among the lot she checked," Kane said.

Interestingly, while refuting the allegations, the CoE had termed the entire episode as an "act of mischief by someone". Likhitkar however couldn't be contacted for her comments.

The fraud came to fore after a person, TS Gedam, wrote to vice-chancellor, Vilas Sapkal, alleging that Likhitkar had helped her sister (Roll No. 108993) to clear Bachelor of Library Science (BLib) examination conducted in 2010-11 through unfair means. The letter claimed that Likhitkar herself checked the answer-sheets of her sister during revaluation and increased her marks in two subjects so as to enable her to clear the examinations.

The letter further mentioned that she had misused her position and failed to inform the university that her sister was appearing in the examination, thus violating rules.

The letter claimed that when her sister completed her Certificate Course in Library Science in 2008, she (Roll No. 171026) was declared failed and but she subsequently cleared her next exam with the help of Likhitkar. She had even visited MJ College when MLib practicals were being conducted in March and asked the college authorities to personally pay attention to her sister. The student is now doing her Masters in Library Science (MLib).

E-library to give students access to medical journals

NAGPUR: The libraries of government-run medical and dental colleges in the state will soon have access to some of the most prestigious medical journals of the world. Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has taken the initiative to enhance medical education in these institutes and give impetus to research. The step also aims meeting the needs of the electronic age.

Librarian Seema Vyas of city's Government Medical College and Hospital has been chosen as the coordinator for the project named e-library consortium. Seven of the most reputed medical journals of the world, including British Medical Journal and online research database ProQuest, have already agreed to be a part of the consortium. This consortium will give students access to the best electronic resources. DMER has invested 1.25 crore to purchase the rights for use of these websites.

"Along with postgraduate students from the 14 medical and three dental colleges of the state, students from seven nursing colleges and two physiotherapy colleges would also benefit," said DMER director Dr Pravin Shingare. Librarians from all colleges have been trained through workshops, and all colleges have been given their own user IDs and password to access them.

"This will be of great help to around 14,000 postgraduate students in writing their dissertations and completing other projects," he added.

"If we were to buy hard copies of these journals for all colleges, it would have cost the state a huge amount. The number of copies would also have been too less to help all the students equally. These sites, however, can be accessed via laptops, phones or tablets anywhere in the campus," explained Seema Vyas.

With this, Maharashtra would become one of the few states where such a service is available to students. DMER officials feel that it would go a long way in helping doctors, medical teachers and students to get a wider perspective for their research.

"Doctors grappling with a particularly difficult disease can always browse through the journals about research done on the subject earlier. Those engaged in research can also go through what has already been worked on, making sharing of resources among peers from different colleges easier," added Vyas. She said there are plans to make e-books of courses available through the colleges by next year as well.
