Qualification and Experience :
The incumbent should have a Masters’ degree in Library and Information Science from reputed
Institutes and Universities with at least 55% marks and consistently good academic record. Bachelors Degree in Computer Applications is preferred. M.Phil in Library Science /Information Science is desirable. Minimum five years of post qualification experience in a leading and reputed Academic Institution /Library/ Research Centre is required. Professional commitment, experience in computerization of library and working knowledge of Libsys (Library software) is essential.

Salary will be Rs 42,000/- to Rs 50,700/- per month.

Qualification and Experience :
The incumbent should be Graduate in Library and Information Science. Masters Degree in Library and Information Science shall be preferred. One year’s post qualification experience in a reputed academic Library and working knowledge of LibSys (Library
software) is desirable. A specialized training of one year from a recognized
institution/organization in IT applications is required. The incumbent should also be well
versed to work in a computerized environment. Candidates below the age of 35 years are preferred.

Appointments will be made purely on contract basis for a period of five years with a consolidated remuneration of Rs.15,000/- per month.

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates for attending the interview.

ADVERTISEMENT
Applications are invited from candidates who fulfill the following
qualifications and other eligibility conditions as on 1.4.2014 for selection of suitable candidates for appointment to the post of Chief librarian, Supreme Court Library in the Pay Band of Rs.15600-39100/- with Grade Pay of Rs.7600/- plus other allowances as admissible under the rules in the Registry
of the Supreme Court of India.

Essential Qualifications
1. A degree in Law of a University in India recognized by the Bar Council of India or by any State Bar Council for enrolment as an Avocate
2. Master's Degree in Library Science of a recognised University
3. Diploma in Computer Application recognised by AICTE/DOEACC or
equivalent or Libarary Automation Course conducted by National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources.
4. Knowledge of Computer application in Library work. It includes-
(i) knowledge and experience of working with any standard 'Library
Automation Software' for House keeping activities in the library such as cataloging, acquisition and circulation etc.
(ii) knowledge and experience
of computerized search both of on-line and off- line databases including of retrieval of desired information through various search engines/processes and
(iii) knowledge and experience of any software for developing In-House
databases for documentation work.

Experience
Minimum 5 years experience as a Librarian in a Library of a recognized
Univesity/Govt. Department/Statutory Body/Public Sector Undertaking with
knowledge of legal documentation and Bibliographical work.
The candidates should not be more than 50 years of age as on 1.4.2014.
General Information
Candidates who fulfill the prescribed qualifications, experience, age
requirement and other eligibility conditions as on 1.4.2014 should apply
giving full particulars (Bio-data) as per the proforma enclosed supported by
copies of all the relevant certificate and documents and a passport size
photograph affixing in the application, all duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.
Candidates who are already working in Government service should send their
application through proper channel. Applications not found as per prescribed
proforma or not supported by duly attested documents or attested photograph
will not be entertained. Candidates who do not fulfill the prescribed
qualifications and other eligibility conditions need not apply.
Eligible candidates shall be called for a Computer Test to ascertain
knowledge of Computer Application in Library work as mentioned above.
Candidates who qualify in the Computer Test will be called for Interview and
those who pass through the Computer Tests and Interview will be considered
for selection.
Selected candidates will be appointed on probation for a period of two
years in the first instance.
No TNDA will be payable to the candidates for appearing in the
Computer Test and Interview.

Inauguration of KLA Centre for Professional Development


Dear Professionals,

Kerala Library Association (KLA) has formally opened an intensive training centre with all modern IT facilities, the KLA Centre for Professional Development (KLA-CPD), on the premises of KLA Head Quarters, Thiruvananthapuram, on 12th April 2014.  Dr J. Rajan, Prof.  & Head, Institute of Management in Kerala (IMK), University of Kerala, inaugurated the Centre. Dr. A. Gopikttan, President, KLA presided over.

Shri Binu K. John, Organizing Secretary, KLA, welcomed the participants and Shri S. L. Faisal, Member, EC, KLA, offered vote of thanks.

TRAINING ON KOHA

The first training programme conducted at KLA-CPD was on KOHA, an open source integrated library management software, from 12 to 13 April 2014. Ten LIS professionals attended the Two Day Training Programme. 
Shri Vimal Kumar V., was the resource person. The Valedictory session was chaired by Shri Sriram, V, Treasurer, KLA and the participation certificates were distributed by Shri N. Sukumaran Nair, former State Librarian and Deputy Librarian-in-charge, Kerala University Library.
